Hannah + Gavin — Rainy Day at The Blanton House
Blanton House Celebration with Rain-Kissed Charm and Vintage Super 8 Video
Right away I need to tell you — there’s something undeniably magical about a rainy day wedding at The Blanton House in Danville, Indiana. The kind of day where raindrops tap on top of the tent like applause + puddles sparkled like pockets of confetti. Sure, the skies opened up — but instead of dampening the mood, it made everything feel even more intimate, more alive. Every embrace felt warmer, every laugh echoed a little louder, and I was lucky enough to capture it all — cozy, romantic, and beautifully real.
The Blanton House is one of those hidden gems just a quick trip from Indianapolis — acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, a historic Georgian Colonial mansion, and an elegant courtyard covered with a canopy of trees.
It’s the kind of place that looks charming even when the skies open up, and the proof can be found below.
I arrived ready with all the tools: digital + film cameras, plus Super 8 video rolling. There’s something extra magical when raindrops fall on old brick and the light pops through wet leaves. The courtyard’s canopy became this dreamy, glowy little oasis where the celebration of these two felt wrapped in an unmatched coziness.
Shooting in multiple mediums really proved to be the right choice for this unique day. The digital shots grabbed crisp, clear portraits under the soft, overcast light. The film frames, including some fun & quirky Holga shots, brought the grainy texture and nostalgia that pulls at your heartstrings. And then the Super 8 video? That rain-patina look, those soft edges & the subtle hum of real motion — it all adds cinematic emotion to the day that still stirs me.
This all goes to show rain doesn’t have to stop the party — it just adds character. The couple rolled with it; as did the guests, umbrellas in hand + laughing while tip toeing around puddles. That kind of laid-back, joyful energy radiates through the photos and video. And it made for some of the most genuine storytelling. (I’d be entirely remiss if I didn’t mention their wonderful planner, Julia, who made everything as seamless as possible throughout the entire day!)
